Paper 58 — The Life Establishment

The implantation date moves ~3 billion years. Life — marine, microbial — is present by 3,480,000,000 years ago on undisputed evidence (stromatolites), arguably by 3.7–3.8 billion. If the Life Carrier commission is to stand where life actually begins, its arrival belongs there, in Archean seas, and the revised Paper 58 is mostly a book about microbes: three billion years of single-celled dominion the original compresses into a "prelife era." Photosynthesis is Archean; complex cells and algae are Proterozoic. Animals by ~635,000,000 (Ediacara). The original's 550,000,000 is retained as what it actually marks: not life's planting but its eruption into visibility — the Cambrian boundary, 538.8 million years.
